We believe in
the benefits of regular preventative care and encourage each of our patients to return for periodic recall visits.
Regular check-ups, in addition to good preventative home care and
a professional hygiene cleaning appointment, are keys to maintaining
good oral health.Most
people should schedule oral hygiene appointments twice a year. Depending on
the status of your oral health, we may recommend more frequent visits.
An oral hygiene
appointment consists of much more than just a cleaning. One of our hygienists will clean and scale
your teeth to remove plaque, calculus, and stain, then polish your
teeth with either a rubber cup and paste or a baking soda/salt water jet
spray rinse. Frequently, it is necessary to give a fluoride treatment.
Next, we conduct a thorough examination for oral cancer, decay, problems
with your tissue or gum disease, wear on your teeth and the overall appearance
of your mouth. In addition, we evaluate your bite, facial muscles,
temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and check the existing conditions of your
fillings, crowns, denture, etc. Finally, we discuss our findings
with you, make our suggestions for future dental treatment and encourage
you to maintain good oral hygiene.
Without routine
check-ups, decay and disease will go undetected. Regular dental
visits can make the difference between losing and saving teeth.
